Season of Planting
– Spring is the season of planting! We get ourselves outside to tend to the lawn, trim up the outside bushes and trees, plant flowers, and even create a vegetable garden. We shake off the season of hibernation and trade it for a season of get togethers, laughter, and just plain fun.
Why not infuse your outdoor spaces with plants that smell great and have additional benefits?
Place large pots around your outdoor patios and fill them with eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender, and lemongrass. These plants are said to have natural mosquito repelling properties and smell amazing. You can also incorporate these plants in with flower arrangements to create visually beautiful pots, with aromas that transport you into serenity. Incorporating lavender and lemongrass into your flower beds can visually boost your space and create a home barrier.
Plant an herb garden.
You can create a small section in your home by a window or outside on your back patio. Start with small pots and pick your favorite spices you incorporate into your weekly cooking. Some of our favorites are thyme, basil, rosemary, and sage. As your plants grow, you will need to repot them to allow them to continue to flourish. You can incorporate these fresh herbs into your kitchen creations by taking small leaf clippings. Make sure you only clip the leaves, leaving the rest of the plant the ability to continue to grow. It is also recommended to clip only down to 50% of the plant’s leaves, before leaving it alone for complete regrowth. Planting multiple herb plants can increase your ability to add fresh herbs into your cooking all season long.
Vegetable gardens are always a fun way to incorporate fresh vegetables into your kitchen.
Look at the recommended planting guides for your area. These guides can tell you what to plant and when to plant it. It takes some of the guesswork out of planting and hopefully helps you become a successful gardener. You can also incorporate plants that have bug repelling properties in your vegetable garden. It’s a nice way to keep critters away without using harsh chemicals on your homegrown veggies.
